Protecting Your New Car

Purchasing a new car with today’s economy is a major investment. You want to keep your car looking the best it can and for as long as it can. There are some simple things that you can do to help keep your car looking like it just came off the showroom floor.

One thing you can do regularly is to wash your vehicle. You should try to wash it at least twice a month if not more. If you avoid washing, things like bugs, dirt, bird droppings and dust can damage the paint and leave permanent stains. A clean car will allow the moisture to evaporate quickly; but if the car is dirty, moisture will accumulate on the most soiled areas. The dirt and grime will build up and ultimately cause corrosion and destroy your paint.

At least once a month you should use a pressure washer on your vehicle. This will remove the dirt from hard to reach areas. You have to be cautious though; avoid holding the pressure washer jet too close to the car because it can peel off loose paint. You should wash off all places where dirt and salt can accumulate – such as behind moldings, inside the wheel arches and under the bumpers.

You should also wax your car regularly. Car wax will give your car a natural shine and will form a thin transparent layer over the car paint. This layer covers minor scratches and other damages making them less visible. The wax will also seal the paint preventing water from contacting exposed metal in deep scratches and help slow down the corrosion process. High quality car wax will stay on the car for at least three to four months.

To wax your car you will need a good quality wax, a small soft sponge and a clean soft towel. First, you must make sure that your car is very clean and dry. Since car wax works best on a cool car, you should try to make sure that you are parked in the shade until your car is cool to the touch. Be sure to work on one section at a time so the wax won't dry unevely leaving streaks. Using the sponge, cover the section with a thin layer of wax. In a minute or two the wax will become hazy and then you take the clean soft towel and buff it until it shines. Repeat this process on all other sections of the vehicle until you have covered the whole surface.

Another thing to consider is that if you live in an area that has high humidity or where salt is used in the winter months; you should consider undercoating and rust proofing your car. This will protect your undercarriage and other important components (like your brakes) from corrosion.

While washing and waxing is important, you could save time and money between washes by purchasing a car cover. A car cover will not only keep your car cleaner for longer, but it will block out things like bird droppings, sap and dust that will fall on your car no matter how clean it is. For the best protection against dirt & grime as well harsh weather and sun, we recommend the Max Cover.

Don't let Mother Nature destroy your new investment. You can add years to your new car just by regularly washing and waxing the exterior and buying a high quality car cover. This will make sure that your car keeps its shiny new appearance and value for years to come.
